Benidorm

Benidorm is not only the largest tourist resort in Europe, with four million visitors each year, but it is also the most talked about.

The town’s beaches and cosmopolitan atmosphere (it has a skyscraper skyline that looks stunning at night) makes it famous for swimming by day and partying by night. Benidorm's 5km of clean, sandy beaches are lined with towering hotels and apartment blocks which pay testimony to its growth and economic success.

One of the reasons for this success is the resort's fabulous climate, with a mean annual temperature of approximately 20°C and over 300 days of sunshine a year. Temperatures rarely fall below 5°C in the winter months and can reach a scorching 40°C in the summer.

For great views of the coastline, it is possible to take a boat from Benidorm to Calpe. There are plenty of water sports to participate in and opportunities to hire boats, different aquatic ski activities or take a diving course. Benidorm is located in the northern Costa Blanca and can be accessed via the AP-7 motorway or the N332 coast road. It lies between Villajoyosa and Altea and is easily reached from both El Altet, Alicante airport and Manises, Valencia airport.

Originally settled by the Moors, Benidorm was just a small fishing village up until the 1950's when it became a popular beach holiday destination. Benidorm's early history abounds in stories of Arab invaders, pirate attacks and Christian reconquests. There is much to do and see in and around Benidorm and many places to visit. Benidorm provides a large range of cultural activities including an incredible calender of fiestas and parties, throughout the year.

The resort offers a range of local, traditional Mediterranean food and an increasing number of international restaurants. There are various museums and an excellent selection and choice for shopping. You can also find theatre and exhibitions to cater for all interests. Plus, of course, the four local theme parks, two of which are aquatic.
